Photorejuvenation Q & A

Clinical Skin Therapeutics

What is photorejuvenation?

Photorejuvenation is a laser skin treatment that improves the appearance of several skin issues. Clinical Skin Therapeutics uses the BroadBand Light™, or BBL™, module by Sciton® to provide innovative photorejuvenation treatment.

BBL energy allows your provider to fine-tune the laser wavelength to precisely treat a variety of skin conditions, including:

  • Wrinkles
  • Sun spots
  • Age spots
  • Small facial veins
  • Texture issues
  • Rosacea
  • Pigmented lesions (freckles, acne scars)

Your photorejuvenation treatment will be customized for your skin type and desired results.

How does photorejuvenation work?

The Sciton BBL module’s advanced dual-lamp technology delivers infrared light that penetrates the dermis and epidermis, your skin’s outer layers. The laser energy stimulates changes in your skin by eliminating blood vessels that cause redness and getting rid of melanin that creates abnormal pigmentation.

During photorejuvenation treatment, your provider may offer topical anesthesia to make the procedure more comfortable. The sensation you feel from the concentrated laser is similar to the snapping of a rubber band. Photorejuvenation can be used to treat different parts of your body, including the:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Back of the hands
  • Chest
  • Shoulders

The length of a treatment session depends on a variety of factors, including the size of the treatment area and the condition being treated. Your procedure can take as little as a few minutes or up to an hour.

The number of treatment sessions varies for each patient. Your provider develops a treatment plan personalized for you and your desired results.

What can I expect after photorejuvenation treatment?

Since photorejuvenation is a non-invasive procedure, there's usually no downtime involved. You can resume your everyday routine right after a treatment session.

It’s normal to experience some redness, swelling, or a sunburn-like feeling after a photorejuvenation procedure. However, any side effects should subside within a few hours.

If you’re receiving treatment for pigmented lesions or age spots, you may notice a darkening of the treatment areas, followed by flaking off over the next few days. Treated skin will feel smoother, spots and pigmentation will fade, and fine lines will improve.
